I have lived in Ashburnham
for 21 years. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor
of Science degree in Animal Science. I worked as a vet tech for many years and I have completed the Pet First Aid Course by the American Red Cross. I used to do foster care for the
Pat Brody Cat Shelter. It was a very rewarding job and I loved it. Three of the cats I presently own came from there. I also
became involved with the Ashburnham Fire Dept. and used to work as an EMT
for them. I took some time off from work after injuring my knee in the
spring of 2001. I finally had surgery on it that fall and had planned to
start back at work in the spring/summer 2002 but ended up deciding to strike
out on my own in a new field instead and began my professional pet sitting business.
I came up with the idea after having some problems with pet care when we went on our
summer vacation. I love my pets very much and I have a hard time leaving them.
My dog hates going to a kennel. We tried using a neighborhood kid and it turned
out to be a huge disaster. I found myself wishing that there
was a qualified, dependable adult who loved animals who could come into my home each day and
take care of them and give them lots of love. Someone like me. I decided to offer my services to others in the community. Since then
I have done a lot of research into the pet sitting business and found it to be a new fast-growing
field and I'm very excited to be a part of it. I belong to the North Central Massachusetts Professional Pet Sitters.
I also belong to a couple of online professional pet sitters groups. They are a
wonderful source of information and support. I attend The Pet Sitters Conference every winter. I strongly believe in continuing education and do all I can to learn more on how
to take the best care of all the pets in my care.
As far back as I can remember I have loved animals. I have always
felt a great affinity with them and there was never a doubt in my mind
that they would be a major part of my life. I grew up with dogs, horses,
rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, gerbils, and many cats. Cats and I share a
special bond. I have never met one that I didn't like. They are amazing
creatures. I could also never imagine a house without a dog. You couldn't
ask for a more loving, loyal friend. I feel like I could never have too
many pets but my husband feels differently. That's why this job is so perfect
for me. Your pets get to be my extended family!
I'm married with 3 teenagers, 6 cats and a yellow lab. When I'm not with the pets I enjoy skydiving, skiing, reading and
hiking. I also love spending time with my kids, either playing sports with
them, coaching some of their teams or cheering them on from the sidelines.
